Tom Hanks updated his fans as he returned home to the US with wife Rita Wilson, but the famous couple faced some criticism. They spent weeks in Australia after testing positive for coronavirus while Tom was Down Under filming a new Elvis biopic. The Oscar winner and his singer wife, both 63, flew back to Los Angeles by private jet yesterday after spending the entire time in quarantine. But some fans questioned how they managed to make the flight after the US government announced a ban on international travel to tackle the spread of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Tom took to Twitter to write: “Hey, Folks… We’re home now, and like the rest of America, we carry on with sheltering in place and social distancing.
Tom updated his fans
“Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who looked after us. Their care and guidance made possible our return to the USA. And many thanks to all of you who reached out with well wishes. “Rita and I so appreciate it. Hanx” Most fans were supportive and pleased to see the couple were able to return home.
Tom and Rita were the first celebrities to test positive
One replied: “SO happy to hear that youre better and home safe. The world cant afford to lose people as wonderful as you. May you continue to recover and be safe. Sending much love and UTV!!!” Another wrote: “Tom Hanks is back home and doing well! Best news of the day!” But some criticised the couple and suggested they had broken the rules. One posted: “My question is how do you fly from Australia when all the borders are closed?”

And another commented: “And one more reason to dislike celebrities. All of the peasants need the help from government to get home. Cool.” However, when President Donald Trump imposed the ban on international travel, it only applied to European countries, and returning US citizens were exempt. So no rules were broken when Tom and Rita flew home from Australia.
